The Mongols 1973

A television series about the history of cinema director, who has been struggling with the screenplay for his debut feature film, is assigned to oversee the erection of a television relay station in a rural section of Zahedan province, near the Afghan border. He has already engaged Turkoman tribespeople and chosen a filming location. Meanwhile, his wife, who is working on her Ph.D. dissertation on the Mongol conquest of Iran, tries to talk him out of taking the job. While working on his history of cinema series one night, the filmmaker fantasizes of a diagetic universe made up of creative juxtapositions of his many worlds: the history of cinema, the history of the Mongol invasion, his own film concept, and his impending desert assignment
